About Stichting UvO

Stichting UvO is a Reproduction Rights Organisation (RRO) for publishers in the Netherlands, but also worldwide. We mostly represent publishers of professional and scientific publications, textbooks, but also newspapers, etc. Publishers' content is used and reused (copied, reproduced) in (higher) education institutions. Stichting UvO makes this reuse possible and ensures at the same time that publishers - and their authors - receive fair compensation for this reuse of their work.

Educational publications are indispensable for our knowledge-based economy. UvO's core business, the 'collective management' of copyrights, is administrative: invoicing and distribution. We do this on a non-profit basis. In order to keep the share for publishers as high as possible, the compensations only go to rights holders and is not used for social, cultural or educational services.

Stichting UvO was established in 2019 when the activities relating to the reader schemes were split from Stichting PRO. We currently represent over 700 Dutch publishers and, through IPRO, the largest foreign publishers.
